🏠 This role – as are most all of our roles – is 100% REMOTE from anywhere in the United States 🏠

You will join a DevOps team practicing GitOps to build highly scalable and resilient infrastructure; the Zip ecosystem, with over 12 million customers and 94,000 merchants, is a rapidly scaling ecommerce platform built in C#, .NET Core, Azure, with an event-driven architecture and robust messaging frameworks. Presently, our EventStore instance has ~2.5 billion events in 15 projections.

The Role

  • Develop fault-tolerant, highly available, and self-healing platforms hosted with Kubernetes on Azure AKS
  • Work with our platform engineers to write code that scales, maintains, and monitors our infrastructure
  • Automate everything and instrument everything! We believe in infrastructure as code and using data and evidence to guide our decisions
  • Create zero-downtime CI/CD deployment pipelines
  • Build tools to analyze application performance and debug production issues
  • Participate in a blameless culture that focuses on process and technology

🔥 Current Hot Initiatives 2023

  • Creating a self healing microservice architecture (and always iterating to improve this)
  • Proactively scaling microservices to handle peak load, holidays, etc.
  • Ephemeral environment tooling to create K8s namespaces on the fly for developers
  • Building microservices with a GitOps IaC Terraform approach
  • Aggregating cost data across all infrastructure for product team visibility and optimization


  • At least 5 years of professional DevOps experience
  • Experience using Kubernetes or other container orchestrators
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
  • Experience scaling microservice architectures within Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Experience with a Service Mesh such as Istio, Linkerd, Kong, etc.
  • Experience with service monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Application Insights, etc
  • Highly skilled in at least one programming language (Python, C#, Java, Ruby, Javascript)
  • An obsession overusing data and paying attention to small details to solve problems
  • Experience with chaos engineering, incident response plans, monitoring, and alerting
Pay Range: $161,400 to $222,732

The Pay Range for this position: Minimum - Maximum based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
