Meet Snr. Compliance Manager, BSA Officer Dani Banci, who is leading Team US’s compliance and risk management efforts while always thinking Customer First.
Tell us who you are, what you do at Zip, and a little bit more about your Zipstory
I’m Dani Banci, Senior Compliance Manager and BSA Officer at Zip US. My role is to guide Zip through the ever-evolving landscape of regulatory compliance—ensuring our products and services meet key standards like Fair Lending, Bank Secrecy Act regulations, and the requirements of our partner banks. Before joining Zip, I worked across various corners of the financial services world, from banking to remittances, with a constant focus on keeping things compliant and minimizing risk. Now at Zip, it’s all about staying ahead of the curve and making sure we operate with integrity, while also offering our customers the best possible experience!
You’ve been a Zipster for over three years now. What has enabled you to accelerate your career fastest during your time here?
At Zip, I’ve had the chance to accelerate my career through exciting challenges and continuous growth. The dynamic environment has helped me deepen my expertise in compliance and risk management. With strong support from my leaders, I’ve taken on project leadership roles, like implementing Zip’s checkout product channel under the partner bank program and advising product and engineering teams on fair lending compliance. These experiences have allowed me to expand my skills, collaborate across departments, and make a real impact. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey of growth and contribution!
In your experience, what are some of the opportunities you get working in Compliance at Zip that you wouldn’t get working elsewhere?
As more customers look for alternatives to traditional banking and credit options, working at a fintech like Zip offers professionals like me the exciting opportunity to create innovative solutions that not only meet customer needs but also stay fully compliant. At Zip, we take a human-centric approach to credit, focusing on customer behavior rather than just credit scores. This commitment to putting customers first creates a dynamic and rewarding work environment where creativity and compliance go hand in hand.
Thinking about the way you get your best work done, how does Zip support your wellbeing?
I feel like Zip prioritizes work-life balance with flexible hours and wellness programs, creating an environment where I can thrive both professionally and personally! Also, one of the things I love most about working at Zip is how, even though most of our team works remotely, we make it a priority to come together in person at least twice a year. It’s always a highlight! Over the years, we've had some unforgettable experiences—like trying out quirky cuisines and even crafting our own perfume. These are the kinds of fun, one-of-a-kind activities I’ve never had the chance to do outside of Zip, and they’ve helped us build a strong sense of team and camaraderie.
Which chapter in your Zipstory, that not a lot of people may know about, makes you most proud to be a Zipster?
This year, I had the exciting opportunity to join the Culture Circle in celebration of Hispanic and Latin Heritage. It was a fantastic chance to share some fun facts and insights about my Brazilian background with my colleagues, while also learning from their unique cultures and experiences. The event was not only informative but also a lot of fun, highlighting the richness of our diverse team. The empowerment I feel from working at a company that celebrates and respects who I am and where I came from is truly inspiring—it encourages me to fully embrace one of our core values: to be fearless! It’s a constant reminder to step outside my comfort zone, take on new challenges, and confidently pursue growth.
