We also see AI as a core skill for the future. At Zip, we use tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to help us work smarter and make better decisions. We look for people who are curious, adaptable, and confident using these tools responsibly to solve problems and improve outcomes.

This guide explains how AI fits into your recruitment experience with us, when you can use it, when you shouldn’t, and how we’ll assess your approach to AI along the way.

When and How to Use AI

As a candidate we'd like you to use AI where it helps you think, prepare, and communicate, not as a replacement for your own experience or judgement.

How We Assess AI Mindset and Capability

We look at two complementary areas when it comes to AI:

  • AI Mindset: How you think about and approach AI, focusing on curiosity, adaptability, and judgment.
  • AI Capability: How you use or reason through AI to improve outcomes, emphasising application, reasoning, and impact.

Both are explored through behavioural conversations, practical tasks, and hypotheticals that reward curiosity, reasoning, and learning agility. How we assess AI capability depends on the role and your Talent Acquisition Partner will explain what’s expected for the role you’re exploring.

Our AI Assessment Principles

Our approach to assessment is designed to keep the process consistent, fair, and focused on potential. These principles guide how we evaluate you and how we use AI within our own hiring practices:

  • Assess thinking, not access: We care about how you think, not the tools you’ve used.
  • Hypotheticals are valid: It’s fine if you haven’t done it before, tell us how you would approach it.
  • Reward curiosity and reasoning: We value thoughtful questions and clear logic.
  • Focus on learning agility and judgment: Show how you learn fast and make good calls.
