About American Airlines
American Airlines was founded by C.R. Smith in 1926 and has been a leading national and international airline ever since. The first American Airlines flight was flown by Charles Lindbergh on a U.S. mail route from Missouri to Illinois. The airline quickly expanded from transporting mail to commercial flights being the first to fly a DC-3 in commercial service from New York to Chicago in 1936. It has been the "first" of many accomplishments including pioneering nonstop transcontinental service. The airline now flies to nearly 350 destinations in 50 countries with around 6,700 flights daily.
