The challenge

The hidden cost of abandoned checkouts

FEVO, a leader in seamless ticketing and group experiences, faced a tough challenge: how to provide purchase opportunities for those declined at checkout. For many e-commerce retailers, up to 5-10%¹ of transactions get declined, leading to abandoned carts and missed revenue—a major hurdle for businesses looking to boost checkout conversions. FEVO needed a way to recapture those declined shoppers without disrupting the user experience or lowering approval standards. 5-10%¹ of possible added revenue from an average of declined transactions

Our solution

A second chance for declined customers

FEVO integrated Zip’s Second Chance Widget to recover lost sales by re-engaging shoppers experiencing credit or debit card declines. When a transaction fails, the Second Chance Widget appears, suggesting that shoppers might qualify for Zip’s Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) option, allowing them to complete their purchase with just 25% upfront. The process is so seamless that shoppers don’t need to leave the checkout page. By highlighting Zip as an option when shoppers need it most, the Second Chance Widget offers a convenient payment alternative that prevents revenue loss and maintains sales momentum. This tool also opens doors to an underserved market of over 100 million Americans who lack access to traditional credit².

The impact

Turning lost opportunities into new sales

Since integrating the Second Chance Widget, FEVO’s data shows a significant drop in cart abandonment from credit card declines.

  • Shoppers using the Second Chance Widget have a 14% higher average order value³ (AOV) than FEVO’s other buy now, pay later shoppers.

  • Second Chance Widget drove a 42% completion rate³ among shoppers who entered through this re-engagement, turning lost opportunities into completed transactions and substantial revenue.

  • The average credit score of Second Chance Widget users is 620, highlighting Zip’s ability to approve shoppers who might not qualify for traditional credit cards.

The Second Chance Widget offers an integrated, customer-friendly solution to tackle checkout declines. It proves that converting declined checkouts into completed sales doesn’t have to compromise user experience or require complex integrations. Instead, it’s an opportunity to turn cart abandonment into conversions, opening doors to new revenue streams.
