Meet Director of Group Finance Strategy and Transformation Jenny Sengkeo who is close to celebrating her first Zipsterversary having joined Zip after spending the large part of her career in corporate finance roles.
Tell us who you are, what you do at Zip and a little bit more about your Zipstory
Hi my name is Jenny, and I’m the Director of Group Finance Strategy and Transformation. I am responsible for leading the implementation of our new General Ledger in Finance. In addition, I work closely with our Group CFO supporting the Corporate function and transactions. I am helping to establish appropriate governance and optimal operating rhythms in our corporate reporting, and get involved with many of our strategic business opportunities.
You’ve been a Zipster for nearly a year now. What has enabled you to accelerate your career fastest during your time here?
The environment we work in is extremely agile and priorities can pivot quickly, which means a variety of interesting and exciting opportunities to seize as and when they arise. Depending on the task at hand, I get exposure to a wide variety of people and different functions which is refreshing - it often helps me to see things from a different perspective and gain insights into how teams operate across the company.
I also find leaders at Zip - whether our Group CEO Cynthia or other members of our Global Executive Team - accessible and approachable. It’s great to have the opportunity to be involved in discussions with them, and to get exposure to their unique perspectives and lines of questioning.
Our company is also undergoing lots of change. I enjoy the dynamic nature of working in financial services and the size of our company is appealing as I can directly see and feel the contributions myself and others around me are making.
In your experience, what are some of the opportunities you get working in Finance at Zip that you wouldn’t get working elsewhere?
At Zip I’ve found a good balance between the dynamism of fintech and aspects of corporate culture. We’re serious about getting the work done, and teams are amazing at working together to achieve a shared goal. But at the same time, it’s a more relaxed culture where everyone is super friendly and happy to help. I particularly love how we celebrate wins together.
We’re still a growing company, and we’re gaining momentum in the capital markets. During these periods of growth, there are always opportunities to improve ways of working and make processes more efficient, which is something I really enjoy.
Thinking about the way you get your best work done, how does Zip support your wellbeing?
The flexible working arrangements at Zip have allowed me to balance work and life commitments while being trusted to deliver. When I talk of flexibility, it’s more than just the hybrid working environment and flexible hours. It’s also about Zipsters being flexible with deliverables. Whether that’s having an open conversation about what the priority is, or whether there is another way to deliver the objective.
Working at Zip is not about the hours you work, but more about the outcome delivered. I thrive in environments where teams work towards a common shared goal and Zip is very good at standing up a cross functional group to work on deals with strict deadlines. I’ve seen this first hand and it’s amazing to see what the team can achieve when we work together.
What excites you most about writing the next chapter of your career story at Zip?
It’s an exciting time to be at Zip and it’s great to be a part of this Finance team as we continue to grow from a mutli-billion market capital company to something bigger and greater. I look forward to helping the finance team gain efficiencies through transformative improvements, while also supporting our strategic business priorities.
