TJ Maxx was founded in 1976 by Bernard (Ben) Cammarata who was formerly the General Merchandising Manager of Marshalls. Cammarata developed and spearhead the launch of a new off-price chain selling family apparel and home fashions with it's first stores opening in 1977. Today there are over 1,200 TJ Maxx stores nationwide sharing the company's off-price business model across departments like clothing, home, food, shoes and more in addition to their "Runway" section featuring high-end designer brands at a discounted price.
